Specimen Transportation ASAP

Gas syringe Must arrive in lab within 30 minutes of collection

Red top Must arrive in lab within 45 minutes of collection

Preferred 0.5 mL in heparinised blood gas syringe, mix blood well
Acceptable Plain Red-Top tube (Serum)
Pediatric Requirements 0.1 mL in blood gas capillary tube.

Reference Intervals Reference range: 1.13 - 1.26 mmol/L
